Xojo Announces the Availability of Xojo 2017 Release 3; Release Includes 64-Bit IDE For Better Performance and Memory Use

AUSTIN, TX, USA (December 5, 2017) — Xojo, Inc., the company that has enabled over 330,000 developers to build native cross-platform applications, today announced the availability of Xojo 2017 Release 3. Xojo is a rapid application development tool for making apps for the desktop (macOS, Windows and Linux), web, iOS, and Raspberry Pi. Xojo 2017 Release 3 has over 170 changes and improvements. 64-bit improvements continue with the new 64-bit IDE which greatly increases the memory available for projects. In addition, the Code Editor has been optimized for performance and is now much faster than previous versions.

Xojo is the best environment for professional developers, citizen developers and hobbyists alike. Xojo applications compile to machine code for greater performance and security. It uses native controls so apps look and feel right on each platform. Since one set of source code can be used to support multiple platforms, development is 10 times faster than traditional tools. Xojo comes with a drag and drop user interface builder and one straightforward programming language for development.

“It is always our goal to keep Xojo modern so that developers never run into limits,” commented Geoff Perlman, Xojo Founder and CEO. “One of the limits in the past is that when projects get really big they run out of memory. By making the IDE 64-bit, we eliminate that problem because apps can now use as much memory is available.”

Xojo 2017 Release 3 features:

  • 64-bit IDE on Windows, macOS and Linux
  • Code editor has been optimized
  • 64-bit support for XojoScript on ARM
  • 64-bit iOS Debugging
  • 64-bit Windows apps can specify allowable Windows versions and security level
  • 64-bit apps now work with Reports
  • SQLite updated to 3.20.1
  • WebTextArea.CueText property
  • Security improvements (OpenSSL 1.1.0e)
